INSS Scientific Forum - 6 April 2004

On April 6 GSI convened the second meeting of the INSS Scientific Forum. This important forum brings together the leading academic minds in Irish marine science for general discussion about the strategic direction of the sector. More specifically, the main purpose of this second meeting of the forum was to explore further the many diverse options for usage of the INSS data in various project types. A turnout of about 30 watched a series of short presentations from GSI staff before the agenda items were worked through. Agenda item suggestions had been canvassed in advance.

Minister John Browne TD on board the L.E. Niamh with members of the Irish Naval Service and GSI
The event took place with the kind hospitality of the Irish Naval Service who provided the excellent facilities of the L.E. Niamh vessel specially for the meeting. We were further gratified that Minister John Browne, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Marine & Natural Resources, took some time out of his busy schedule to host a reception for the group and additional invited guests after the meeting. In his speech he took the opportunity to applaud GSI's efforts in managing the INSS and to commend the ongoing co-operation between GSI and the Naval Service.
