With a mixture of regret and expectation, GSI recently said adieu to Mick Geoghegan. Regret, because Mick had excelled in his role as Project Manager of the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS), and GSI had hoped he would continue to lead their vision for the marine sector far into the future. Expectation, because Mick plans an exciting new career in the private sector, which we are sure will be both stimulating and successful.

Mick is a graduate in Geology and holds a Masters degree in Geophysics from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Following an early stint with Ray Keary (RIP) in the then-fledgling Marine Section in GSI, he worked as a Consultant Geophysicist on various projects worldwide including oil and gas exploration, harbour development, hydrography and telecommunications cable routing. He brought this considerable experience and expertise back to Ireland in 2000 when he returned to GSI to manage the INSS, the largest marine survey of its type in the world and one that has received worldwide approval and admiration. Mick's role in its successful execution to date has been crucial.

Mick concluded his second stint in GSI on the 3rd of June 2005 and we wish him all the very best in his new venture, partnering Ciaran Lawless in a private marine survey company - IMAR Survey.
