Newfoundland Premier visits INSS Team

Dr. McArdle presents Premier Williams with a De Noyer Print from Co. Waterford On Wednesday, 7th July, the Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador, Danny Williams, together with an entourage including the Minister and Deputy Minister for Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, visited GSI as part of a diplomatic mission to Ireland. The visit to GSI primarily resulted from the excellent relationship that has been built up over the years between Ireland and Newfoundland & Labrador (and Canada) under the auspices of the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS), the North Atlantic Minerals Symposium and other initiatives.

From an INSS perspective the objective of the visit was to enable the delegation to familiarise itself with the INSS with a view to cultivating further business co-operation between both jurisdictions. Whilst here the delegation wasl addressed jointly by Dr. Peadar McArdle, Director GSI, and Peter Heffernan, CEO Marine Institute. Following the presentations there was a fruitful discussion between both the Canadian delegation and the Irish contingent, both of whom were also made up of industry representatives.
