Memorandum of Understanding with NUIG

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalised on 29 October 2003 between GSI and the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Broadly speaking it will facilitate NUIG access to the INSS dataset for Higher Education Authority (HEA) approved projects with GSI getting access to these projects in return. This fits in with GSI's long-standing commitment to partnership with the academic community amongst other national interests and organisations, and to the concept of value-added projects. The MoU may lead to linkages with Newfoundland organisations under the Ireland-Newfoundland Partnership.

Some of the main areas of interest include:

  • Information highway - integrated datasets via networks.
  • Habitat mapping - NUIG workshop in 2004.
  • Sub-bottom profiling work
  • Data visualisation.

Overall agreement had been reached following various meetings that the core partnership should be GSI and NUIG but that it could be expanded by mutual agreement, either within Ireland to include e.g. the MI, users, the private sector etc, or extending into Newfoundland.
